Comets
- Comets have no rings or moons.
- A comet is a cosmic dusty, Rocky snowball of frozen gas.
- Comets warm up near the sun and develop atmospheres.
- Comets cannot support life, but may have brought water and other building blocks of life to earth.
Meteors/Meteorites
- Meteoroids turn into meteors when they enter earth, this is what a shooting star is.
- Meteors can’t support life, but may have provided the earth with amino acids.
- Meteorites are debris from meteoroids that have made it to the surface of a planet.
- Meteorites look like earth rock, but have a burned appearance.
Asteroids
- Asteroids do not have any rings.
- If all the asteroids were combined together, they would still be smaller than earth’s moon.
- Most asteroids orbit the sun in between the orbits of mars and jupiter (the asteroid belt)
- Asteroids cannot support life.
